French Polynesia - Off the Beaten Path

Price $5500 CAD per person for 10 days/9 nights

Lay under the sun, enjoy crystal clear water, and swim with sharks on this unique South Pacific experience. Catered to give you as much time as possible in the Marquesas Islands this trip will give you the luxuries of 5 star accommodation all the while enjoying the unique character of Polynesia's most isolated islands.

Day 1 - 2

You will start your charter in Nuku Hiva, the main island of the archipelago. Following your 4WD journey from the airport to the marina you will settle on board; take a snorkeling trip in Tahiohae to encounter manta rays and get under way at sunset for Ua Huka.

Day 3 - 5

Perhaps the most unusual of the north Marquesas Islands, Ua Huka offers beautiful views atop its hills. Home to wild horses and thousands of sea birds, it’s also great for diving. Dive around uninhabited the islets of Teuaua and Hemeni for spectacular encounters with manta rays, turtles and sharks or go for a hike around this unique and secluded island.

Day 6

One of the most charismatic islands of the archipelago, Hiva Oa caught the eye of French painter Paul Gauguin, who fell in love with it in the late 19th century. Visit Gauguin’s grave in Atuona village and pre-colonial sites featuring original petroglyphs and large ancient Tiki statues. Dive around the northern point of Tahuata Island, south of Hiva Oa. Swim along endless seawalls to encounter thrilling pelagic life.

Day 7 - 8

Ua Pou has remained a great source of inspiration for native Marquesan artists, as such it is a very good location to see their work and discover the various symbols of Polynesian tattoos. Enjoy a hike or 4WD ride, discovering lush valleys and sharp mountains before setting sail for Hakatea bay.

Day 9 - 10

Drop anchor in Hakatea bay, south of the island. This is one of the most scenic anchorages in the Marquesas. Go on a hike to the waterfalls, and take a snorkeling safari with hundreds of melon-headed whales. Refreshed and relaxed, fly back from Nuku Hiva to Tahiti International Airport.
